Jim Webb has chance to slug the President....passes....
Well according to The Hill, newly elected U.S. Senator Jim Webb (D-Va.) had the chance that many have wished for but never gotten - a chance to pop George W. Bush in the nose, or mouth, but thank God, the Senator passed.
The exact exchange was at a private White House reception held with newly elected lawmakers shortly after the election. President Bush asked Webb how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing. Webb responded that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, said a person who heard about the exchange from Webb.
Bush smugly replied, "I didn't ask you that, I asked you how he was doing!" Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the Commander-in-Chief. He of course didn't. Otherwise I am sure Bush and his henchmen at the Department of Homeland Security would have shuttled the junior Senator from Virginia off to Gitmo!
A White House spokeswoman declined to give President Bush's version of the story.
Can 2008 get here any sooner so this man will leave office. God grant us the strength to survive two more years of Shrub! Still, does this not remind anyone else of the scene from Steel Magnolias with Clariee (Olympia Dukakis), M'Lynn (Sally Field), and Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine) when M'Lynn was so angry over her daughter's death, she exclaimed, "I just got to hit something." Clairee grabs Ouiser, who is still more popular than Shrub, and pushes her in front of M'Lynn saying "Hit her M'Lynn. Knock her lights out!"
